Majic-L - Majical Challenge Day 7

Day started at 7am with a walk to see what the showers were like here in Guernsey
- intercepted by customs at top of the ramp off the pontoon "what boat are you on, have you done your form?" Being the organised guy that he is, Richard posted our form in the yellow box last night, so I was able to go straight in and jump the queue whilst others there had to provide their details.
What a busy harbour this is - we were sat watching the comings and goings when we saw a live "man overboard" when a French guy was reaching across when berthing up to another boat when he stretched too far and fell in! We heard the splash and all looked around - Tony was there quickly to help pull him out of the water - he was smiling at the end so all ok!
We met at 10am for the coach trip around the island after bidding David "bon voyage" as he left to get the ferry back to Jersey to meet his family. KJ was our coach driver for the trip and provided a useful commentary with some funny quips thrown in. Going all over the island really gave us a feel for the place. The "Little Chapel" was the first stop - a unique creation albeit had to dip under the scaffolding. Not overly impressed with the clock shop as we thought would be locally made clocks rather than bought in, but the novelty musical clocks gave us a laugh. The German Underground Hospital was very cold and damp but gave a feeling of the time. On a lighter note, we sampled the local delicacy "Guernsey Gache" at the coffee stop - a bit like saffron loaf from Plymouth without the yellow colour. As we got off the coach back in the harbour, it just started to rain so a quick run back to shut the boat hatches just in time! We had a pleasant walk about the town doing a bit of shopping and deciding where to eat later and then walked over to the yacht club where the briefing was taking place - just as well as a bit farther than we'd expected! So the bombshell of a major change in the programme and it's back to Cherbourg instead of Jersey - never mind as we have all been to Jersey before, and for me we weren't there long enough before for me to spend the euros I'd bought so back for more cheese, wine and yummy bread and cakes! We had an ace meal tonight in the "Crows Nest" restaurant overlooking the harbour - the crew from Molly Moo came in whilst we were there so trust they enjoyed equally, and then strangely enough in the bar downstairs we enjoyed some excellent pints of Butcombe bitter - which was weird as brewed in Somerset near where we live.
So role on Alderney that none of us have visited so looking forward to tomorrow's sail.
