Midnight Wanderer - Day one

We had a short trip to Haslar from Port Solent, and moored up opposite the lighthouse. Very convenient for the ablution facilities, I must say, as we've never been closer wherever we have parked for the night.

First impressions are indicative as to how things turn out generally, and I must say all are good. So far, we have hooked up with Simon and Becky (Anne of Wight) with whom we found we had an interest in rugby. Simon (proud son) told me that his father played rugby for England. "When " I asked to which he replied "in the 1930's."
I think I disappointed him by not remembering his father's exploits on and off the field! I'm just not old enough!

We were moored ahead of Howard (FourForty) who admitted that this would be his first time across the channel, just like us, which reassured my crew no end. And then we sat down to dinner and joined Clive and Pat (Beowulf) who we had never met before, but like us, are members of the Hallberg Rassy Owners Association (HROA). It really is a small world! In the next few days, I expect we'll meet the rest of the fleet, but as I said, first impressions were very good.

Sally did the briefing, Clare did the safety inspection, Roger appeared to float about in search of a cup of tea, even though it was cocktail hour, and Jeremy made a speech in the the presence of the Lady Mayoress of Gosport. Problem is, I just can't remember any of his jokes.

The weather ain't good, so in prospect is the Submarine Museum and the Mary Rose before the Skippers' briefing at 1600 tomorrow. Then, all will be revealed whether we leave on Sunday or Monday, but before I head for my pit, I am beside myself with anticipation. Day two awaits.
