Sunny days in Figueira da Foz

23 June 2017

The fleet arrived in to Figueira da Foz on Thursday night; After a slow start from Porto the afternoon breeze kicked in and boats reported a great day's sailing. Once safely moored up the fleet wandered up the pontoon to the marina restaurant where they were treated to unlimited sardines cooked on the BBQ, much enjoyed by all.

Yesterday was a busy day starting with an official welcome reception at the town hall presented by the Vice President of the local council and the Commodore of Club Nautico Figueira da Foz, Miguel Amaral. The local authorities expressed their gratitude towards the rally and presented World Cruising Club with a plaque. After, Charlie Pierce thanked the city for their continued support and each participant received a bag of gifts from the port.

The prize giving for leg 4 was presented shortly after. Serafina of Malden won the ETA position guessing only 8 minutes out. WikiWiki and Milla both won the smiley miley competition and were 34km away from the actual distance the rally control team drove.

Yesterday afternoon the fleet visited Coimbra where they had a guided tour of the incredible university and local town. The tour continued on to Montemor Castle that had stunning views over the Portuguese countryside

In the evening participants were free to explore Figueira da Foz. Due to the rescheduled itinerary the rally coincides with a local festival (Sao Joao) the fleet will enjoy fireworks, performances, and a lively atmosphere as locals line the street to celebrate.
