Be Inspired

"We are hoping to do the ARC, or perhaps circumnavigate, in a few years and overall we enjoyed an excellent and very informative weekend attending in 2017." said Brian & Margaret Kneafsey who visited from Dublin. "It certainly whetted the appetite to go bluewater cruising in the future when the time is right for us, and in the meantime enabled realistic and serious planning, which of course starts with finding the right boat! We enjoyed the opportunity to meet all sorts of other people and chat to them, from those who had done the ARC and/or circumnavigated, to those like us who were thinking of doing either and buying a boat. We realise that it will be long-term project which will take a number of years to realise so early planning with the correct information is key, which the weekend definitely supplied."

Programme Overview

During the weekend, a selection of fine examples of bluewater boats will be open for viewing, hosted by experienced offshore skippers, many of whom have sailed the ARC or around the world. Mix, mingle and chat about bluewater sailing is the aim of the weekend.

Balancing out the dockside chat will be a series of seminar presentations and discussions about how to embark on your bluewater dream. Covering a range of topics from training and safety, to rallies and couples cruising techniques, there'll be a wealth of knowledge shared to advance your own cruising plans. Members of the ARC Safety Team will also do a walk through on boat a former ARC boat highlighting key equipment considerations.

A special ‘Coffee with the Experts’ session, provides a focused opportunity for assembled representatives from leading marine companies to answer questions on boat refits, communications equipment, sail training; charts and pilot books; boat management; marine insurance; buying a boat and selecting sails. The session will provide the opportunity for one-to-one questions and small group discussions, ideal for those fitting out their boats for offshore adventures. ARC sailors will also be on hand to share their own experiences of equipment set up and practical advice.

Show your Boat - Help inspire other cruising sailors
If you have been offshore cruising, or have refitted your boat with with living on board in mind, we are inviting you come join us for all or part of the weekend, to share your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with aspiring offshore sailors. The aim of the weekend is to help those planning an offshore adventure in the future start thinking about all aspects of living the bluewater sailing dream, and your own experiences can help them on their way.

It is not about being an expert, but about sharing personal experiences. How you organised your life to go sailing, what you added or wished you had added to your boat. If you sail as a couple, how did this go for you? Did you have a budget for your voyage? These are just some of the nuggets of information we want to share with future offshore sailors.

If you would like to be involved, contact us and let us know which day is best for you; whether you want to bring your boat to Lymington and have it open for visitors, and whether you would like to be involved in any of our discussion panels. Send us an email, or give the office a call on +44 (0)1983 296060.
