Bula Fiji!

05 July 2016

The World ARC fleet is now reassembling after the 3 weeks cruising period in Fij; the rendez vous in Musket Cove starts the 6th of July with a welcome drink and a BBQ in front of the beach, then the Fijian Feast the 7th and the Skippers Briefing the 8th

The start of the leg from Musket Cove to Port Resolution is planned for the 9th at 1000LT.

Musket Cove is a beautiful resort on the island of Malolo LaiLai, part of the Mamanuca Group and is especially welcoming to visiting yachts. There is a wonderful clear water anchorage over white sands, a small marina, then shops and restaurant on the beach, and it’s an ideal place for the fleet to meet up after several weeks of free cruising and all the crews will appreciate being on the dock or the moorings, close to one another.

The World ARC fleet cleared into the Northern Lau Group in Fiji in Vanua Balavu around the 15th of June.

World Cruising Club obtained special permission for the fleet as normally visiting yachts to Fiji are required to clear into the ports of Suva or Savu Savu from which the Lau Group are a difficult sail back to windward.

By clearing directly into the Lau Group this beautiful and remote islands have been available for the fleet to explore since the beginning.

The participants really enjoyed cruising in Fiji. The weather was excellent and the Fijian people very friendly and generous.

One of the top destinations was the Blue Lagoon followed by Champagne Bay both in the Yasawa Group; another popular spot was Manta Ray Pass where the mantas come to feed there and are a great snorkelling and diving spectacle.

Yachts are now getting ready to sail to Port Resolution on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu. Port Resolution was recently devastated by Cyclone Pam and many yachts in the fleet are carrying lots of equipment, stores and supplies they are very generously donating to communities of Port Resolution and the Port Resolution Yacht Club.
