Johanem - Monday Eve - 10th Dec

Good evening all.

I can't remember the brochure word for word, but I am pretty sure it said something like "Tee shirt and shorts sailing", "Stargazing par excellence", "Get into the rhythm downwind sailing with a following sea", "Discover the stars with beautiful clear skies", "Sleep on deck" etc etc... and I can certainly remember the skipper's request not to bring full oilies.... Ooops.. How wrong can you be.. Last night we had 12 hours solid of torrential rain in the pitch black, viciously changing wind conditions with frequent 360 deg changes of direction, gusts of up to 30 knots, and were greeted at dawn with all the fun of a jammed furling main sail (i.e. we couldn't move it in or out)... But its all character building apparently - and we are loving it! The mood is certainly outperforming the weather.

Lord Baker is recovering well after his little mishap... He has certainly mastered the art of ensuring that the bikini clad nurses mop his brow and attend his every need whilst still managing to fully participate in the essential daily tasks (Beer o'clock at midday, a sundowner G+T at 5.30, wine accompanied meal at 6, and a mid-watch whisky during the night shift). Apparently the medication he is on demands that dehydration is avoided at all costs.....

Today we passed 2 more important milestones - 2000 miles completed and 800 miles to go. Both were cause for celebration - we even passed a small drop up to the poor souls who were on deck in the rain.

And so to bed. Stop press... its NOT raining!! However those nights of stars gazing seem some way off!!

Ian
