Poespas - day 10

Day 10

From the skipper's log

Apologies for the inadvertent cockup (pardon the pun) at the end of my last blog. Please see further below for a plausible explanation.

Another eventful day in our hectic transatlantic sojourn into the annals of history. We just learned from a well-placed source that we may have stirred literary leanings in the few readers of our daily blogs by being selected blog of the week or some such. Who had thought that sailing across the Atlantic would invoke prosaic feelings in battle-hardened sailors, but then ocean sailing can be very special indeed.

Anyway, I digress. Back to nautical basics. That long since promised eulogy about our using that whatchamacallit Parasailor will have to wait a tad longer, as we still did not have the right conditions to lose our nautical cherry so to speak. Yours truly keeps on promising his crew paradisiacal conditions for its imminent use, and surely it will come out its fancy bag shortly, what with the, so far, excellent grib files are promising us for the proverbial sprint to the finish in ideal NE 15 knot trade winds.

Was very happy to have my crew pick me up from the middle of the ocean after that notorious windsurfing session (for further detail see description below). Of course I told them it was all an elaborate stunt to test their man overboard recovery skills, whereas they naturally thought their skipper had gone bonkers. But it was a good way to spend a 56th birthday for sure, with and without birthday suit.

PS. Will have to proof read as well as spell check next time before sending out things into the undeterminable ether that is the SSB radio email thingy

Andy's view from the bilge.

Had the morning watch and witnessed a glorious Antlantic sunrise with Anton and the pig's leg. Do you remember those viewers. They were the things we enjoyed during UK summers. Back in the day before the sailing season became a Wednesday in April and before Musto made a range of foul weather clothing for cricketers.

Today is Roger's birthday. He celebrated in true bohemian style by windsurfing at 17 23.22N 38 08 55W. Before you say so what, plot that on your Collins world atlas [other atlases are available  at all good retail outlets and book stores]. He added to the spectacle by performing in his birthday suit. Photos are available under plain brown wrapper and not for the young, elderly or those of a nervous disposition.

On the note of skipper's input I wish to correct an error from his submission last night / Not wishing to draw attention to it but those of broader experience may be anticipating the arrival of Poespas in St Lucia as some sort of nautical dogging platform. This was regrettably a typo and he was referring to the local beverage, of course.

Mike continues with his baking success. Only last night he emerged from the galley clutching a couple of beauties. He was immediately sent back below to put his shorts back on and sort his loaves out.

The sea state has reduced from OFH thru OMG to a pleasant G and T and Anton has been relieved by his twin Albert. All are coping well and we look forward to the remaining days.

Tis aaawwll for now Andy.out

Well.. what a day - exhausting. Now I'm usually up for it but hey. Roger or Rogier for his birth title, and today is his birthday after all. Well 10 out of ten. Or as they say in footballing circles 12 out of ten.

When we first installed Rogers windsurfing boards against the guard rails on Poespas we laughingly said "oh wouldn't it be cool to wind surf in the middle of the atlantic".. and then the plot was born..So the morning came (see above bit worried about Andy and anton, think something happened in the night hence Albert's promotion.. anyway shouldn't assume should we ???)

So I got up, after 2 till 5 watch, not much activity just the usual conversation about which way to cook fish that day and as it turns out Axel's Dorade (UFO)..see previous log.

Rice dish this evening ..c'est magnifique. Sorry anyway I had missed andy and axel working on.. sorry.. suggesting to Roger what better way could there be than to celebrate your birthday, mid atlantic with a windsurf sail. I mean that must be up there with Macchu Pichu, The mile high club and a copy of the European cup final programme for 1968. Surely?

But let's not stop there 'oh no' so Rogier say's.. " ok, let's do it, but if I'm gonna do it it's gonna be in my birthday suit 'cos it's my birthday'. So there. (he didn't actually say the last bit, it's just for effect)

So that's what he did and fair play did it very well - pic's available at various prices, proof of age required.

After that we celebrated with toasted milk bread for lunch with jam.. I know not exciting, but real 'ok'.Then it got dark and the rain came and the wind stopped and the boat stopped. And all was quiet..(apart from the rain obviously) sorry was trying to give that gravitas but failed.

So a different day, and a good day indeedT

he pigs leg seems happy in the netting under the tender

Fish for supper (see above)
