Selene - Selene is ready for the off

Selene and her crew have spent a very useful and enjoyable week in Las Palmas carefully checking everything that can be checked and getting ready for the start. This has been the final furlong in a year long preparation for the race and as I sit here thinking about going to bed the enormity of the task ahead is beginning to dawn. We are all slightly anxious about the trip, but Selene is a very well found boat and we are glad as she will be tested during the very first stages of the race tomorrow

We know there is an area of low pressure to the west which will give us southerly winds tomorrow, of about 20-25kts on the nose, but veering west later and then going north then east over the next day or so. This will mean an uncomfortable first day before the wind goes East and blows us rapidly towards St Lucia and this should allow us to get down to a more southerly track to pick up the trade winds after this depression has gone through.

More from Selene at sea tomorrow
