Endeavour III - Day 17

Daily Blog
       - one day late!

Angling report

      Elapsed time 14 hours

  • Rods in use 2
  • Fish count 0

Wildlife report

  • A short visit by 3 dolphins
  • 3 small white heron-like birds took a rest on the bimini for while, the photo of them sparking a caption competition
  • Many Portuguese men of war sailed past
  • Sundry other birds
  • No mosquitoes

Supply shortage report

  • Only decaf tea left - leaving everyone very chilled
  • Last of the icing sugar - no glaze for the fresh sourdough cinnamon rolls (obviously a catastrophe)
  • No more butter - see last item
  • 0.0% beer - oh dear…

Progress report

  • A good run of sailing close hauled with the code zero and main
  • Now motoring with what little wind there is against us
  • Frantic calculations as to how many hours of sailing we yet need to avoid running out of fuel - we can make Barbados, but not yet St Lucia

On board Cluedo

  • After many days Kev and Dave were declared joint winners (being the only ones left “alive”)
  • Body count: Tash killed Steve with a tin of tonic, Dave killed Hugh with a knife (lacks imagination!), Kevin killed Imara with an onion in the galley (where else?), and Hugh killed Tash with an iPhone (whatever you want, there’s an app for that)

Recreation report

  • The carol concert was well attended and greatly enjoyed - there was some enthusiastic singing, but further practice would not go amiss!
  • Stopped for a very welcome swim after which all crew were cooler, and - ahem - “fresher”

Science report

  • During our swim-stop we took the opportunity to take samples for the Sea Labs Citizen Science project
  • Temperature was taken at various depths
  • Seawater was sampled for pH, alkalinity and salinity - and also filtered for micro-plastic

To be continued…
