Salamander - Evening Meals

On Salamander we are eating like kings! You've heard how we start the day and what we do for lunch. Now let me share a typical evening meal.

Our evening meal is something that's going to get us through the night. It's served at or shortly after 6pm boat time which is UTC. Strangely as we've moved further west this has become a sort of late lunchtime but it's much easier for the watch system and for keeping sane to keep everything on a single time zone for the whole trip.

This meal is going to last us for 12 hours so it's important that it ticks all the boxes, and that's exactly what it does.

Sue spent ages preparing and freezing loads of meals ready to add a few extra veggies or pulses along with rice, pasta, couscous and noodles.

Meals like Moroccan Lamb Tagine, Venison Casserole, Pork with Prunes, Pork with Chorizo, Chicken Oriental Style, Chicken with Chorizo, Chicken with Artichoke, Shepherds Pie, Thai Chicken Curry, together with Chilli con Carne, Spaghetti Ragu and various Rissottos. These are all hot, nourishing and filling meals.

They are all simple to serve and eat in a single bowl with a single piece of cutlery, the spork!

This keeps things simple in the galley. A minimum number of pots and pans and other washing up while delivering food that, without exception gets wolfed down with great satisfaction by all.

Sue is a master at this and has also made a great effort to keep dishes gluten free, as a couple of us on board prefer meals without gluten.

We are never going to go hungry that's for sure! The regular nature of the meals has also been really good for the constitution!
