Mairmade - Day#11

Not all Sunshine and Rainbows!

We knew that this Atlantic crossing was going to very full experience; we were going to get a bit of everything... Just didn't expect to get it all in one day!

Today was (still is?) squall day!

It started on my night shift around 5am, took a break for a few hours, and then we got with squall after squall all day. Squall fronts came through with 35 knots of wind, and in-between we were motoring with less than 5 knots of wind (although thankfully we probably only motored one hour all day). Wind direction changes saw us sailing downwind, upwind, and on a beam reach all at different times today... Quite the adventure!

The last squall (at time of writing) came through about 10 minutes ago, and we're hoping that was the last for a while 🤞

These squalls can be quite dangerous if we have full sails out, and could completely destroy Jeremy or Chloe, and so seeing them coming ahead of time is important. During the day we can see them approach, but at night we have to rely on our radar. Below is the radar picture from 5am this morning 😱

Of course, regardless of what is falling from the sky, we still have to keep Mairmade moving forward, and people still have to eat, so life goes on...

In other news, our 24-hour distance sailed at 1pm today was 167nm for a total distance sailed of 1702nm and, as of now, we are 58% of the way to St. Lucia.
