Tamanaco - fourth day at sea

Hello everyone!

Last night, while sailing, we heard a loud “boom” seconds later our gennaker was lying in the water, port side. Those who were off watch were awaken, and with everyone’s help we got the sail back on the deck, then in its sailboat. We hoisted a replacement sail and kept on going. All this happened shortly after midnight. Fortunately, the sail was not damaged, unlike the Selden CX25 swivel that broke. In the morning, we sent Vincent up the mast to retrieve the half swivel and ri g down the gennaker halyard. Tony and David then used the toolbox to fix a makeshift solution. We hoisted the gennaker again in daylight before noon. It’s going to be more tricky to use it I. The future, without the swivel to fuel it in.
I. The early afternoon the wind died on us again. We motored for a couple of hours and finally tried our Rainman water maker. We had purchased it in Australia for delivery in Las Palmas. We successfully produced 30 liters of fresh water from seawater. With the reassurance that we could produce fresh water we allowed ourselves a swim in the ocean, followed by a nice hot shower on deck. Whales (mother and baby) swam right by us, which was magic. Earlier, Rodrigue and others saw dolphins, and we even spotted a sea turtle.
Wind picked up again and we hosted our Code 0 sail. Sea is calm and wind light so we should enjoy an uneventful night.
Next update tomorrow.
