Skipper Richard

Running a successful trip across the high seas requires a great deal of leadership and teamwork. This is headed up by the skipper, Richard Walsh. The crew are made of family and lifelong friends, so we should know our leader at sea quite well. We posed a few questions to the crew then checked in with the skipper the see how close our dead reckonings were on the Richard Walsh chart.

QUESTION 1: what is skipper's hot drink of choice and how should it be prepared?

All crew: instant coffee with many sugars and milk.
Claire: this, at any time of day and night and regardless of how many coffees he has had already.

Skipper Richard: coffee, as you know. Two sugars and milk. Everyone tries to skimp on the sugars, I have noted. Particularly my daughter, who has some misguided idea of reducing my sugar intake.

QUESTION 2: what food stuffs, if given to the skipper as part of a meal, will be very likely gifted to Neptune?

Caroline: mashed potato, egg whites, fish of any sort.
Adrian: squid, tuna...
Claire: anything vegetarian.
Pete: vegetables. Non-mustarded chips.

Skipper Richard: fish. [On hearing the other responses] I can eat mashed potato if done nicely!

QUESTION 3: what is skipper's favourite song?

Alice: I don't know, shame on me as skipper's watch partner...
Caroline: he wants to have Queen playing, 'We are the Champions', as we arrive.
Pete: 'Where Have All The Flowers Gone'.
Claire: by Marlene Dietrich. In German, he prefers.

Skipper Richard: Either one by Queen or Marlene Dietrich.

QUESTION 4: what activity will Richard be looking forward to the most when we arrive into St Lucia?

Alice: getting out on the boat again to explore St Lucia.
Pete: planning sailing around the Caribbean
Caroline: seeing his granddaughter
Adrian: seeing Noa [his granddaughter]
Claire: he'll say seeing Mum but actually it will be going to the lectures on how well the ARC went

Skipper Richard: I am looking forward to rum punch, seeing my wife and seeing my grandadughter and daughter. Wait.... what about my brother as well. All of those.
