Today we celebrated Babsea and Danica’s arrival. Babsea sailed 1600 miles under their jury rig that Joe from Charm helped them set up out at sea the day after Babsea was dismasted. Danica shadowed Babsea, since Babsea had no nav lights, AIS or radar.Babsea had lost their mast to a big wave, but managed to save the boom and spinnaker poles, so they stood the boom on end for a jury rig mast, and rigged the poles to fly twin staysails. Their top speed under this rig was nine knots! Very impressive! Helmut, Babsea’s skipper, hosted a happy hour at a pretty hotel just across the waterway from the basin we are all moored at , and gave us all the story of their adventure. We are all very happy they are here now!
