Timshel - Brazil to Grenada Day 9 and 10

We arrived at the Devils Is finish line at 22.49 and were anchored behind the rest of the fleet at Ile Royale by 23.40, a quick belated celebration of crossing the equator again and for arriving then for well deserved sleep. In the morning we found someone had parked a city just off our starboard side - a large Dutch cruise ship, and by this time many of our rally companions had already set off or were just setting off again. Really 24 hours is not long enough for a stopover. We went through the list of jobs, unfortunately the water speed log could not be sorted by fiddling with the connections this time, presume we need a new transducer, but the other stuff got done and we dried the boat out in the warm sunshine. Anita had a quick swim, but this was not ideal with the strong tide running through the anchorage, and of course we had showers - clean at last! Apparently the island was very interesting and we are sorry we missed it but it just did not seem worth taking 1 1/2 hrs to inflate the dinghy (its OK for those big boats with davits) and get it ready to use it for a couple of hours than the same amount of time to put it away again. With the squally weather we've been having we would prefer it stored back down below not on deck. So after another rest we decided to set off before our 24 hours were up so that we could leave in daylight. Our restart was at 17.47, and we have been sailing well all night making good progress on a close reach. Sails have been reefed in and out as wind strenth varies but often the boat sails faster when flatter and not pressed so hard. There is still a favourable current but difficult to tell how much as the water log is not working.
