Cerulean of Penryn - Day 1

Towards Mindelo. 0800UTC Distance run 95Nm, Distance to go 793Nm

Light winds at the start and we were amongst the last to cross the line making about 1.5kts. We then headed SE with the rest of the fleet to clear the wind acceleration zone and as we cleared the anchored ships the wind filled in to make 4.5kts in brilliant sunshine. As night fell we were making around 5 kts and were able to progressively turn South eventually making 195M, Bearing to Mindelo is 228M using the wind vane which works impressively well.

We had a nice sunset and it was a starry night for the most part with the occasional meteor.

At 0200 the wind backed a little and the wind vane followed it around making 165M. We gybed at 0215 and made 235M and a speed of 5 - 5.6kts. However by 0600 the wind died to F2 and we put the mechanical topsail on. We are now just going to put the cruising chute up....cruising chute now up...4.5kts yippee
