Timshel - Darwin to Lombok Day 8 and 9 Finish

The new weather forecast promised winds of 15 knots, maybe gusting up to 23! We plodded on making 4-5 knots over the ground with the favourable current in about 7-8 knots true wind waiting for the blast of wind to hit us. Yeah right! At 0200 when we were losing our favourable stream (due to outflow from Selat Ales the channel between Lombok and Sumbawa), we reckoned we had enough fuel and started the engine to motorsail the last 57 mile to the finish. I left Steve on watch and went to bed at 0500. At 0800 when I got up we were motorsailing furiously, full sail and 2500 revs at 7 knots ground speed to get to the finish - cut off time was 1100 and we made it at 10.42. Now heading on to get up Selat Lombok (between Bali and Lombok) and round to the island of Gili Gede and the marina resort where the boats are based. Current in the channel is S flowing with Monsoon, up to 6 kts, hopefully we will make it a not too unfavourable time and will try to creep up by the shore to keep out of the stream. We are fully expecting to be awarded a wooden spoon at the dinner on friday, but at least we to get a Finish time. Have hoisted the Indonesian Courtesy flag.
