Selkie - Update on Kids

Tristan (11) games a lot and loves his movie time. He can get cranky, but then he has beautiful moments where he does all the dishes with a smile, organizes really well, or plans a moment with a little. The other day on his afternoon watch, he made a pulley system that ran the length of the boat with our Polar Express book as a platter. It’s so no one has to get out of bed, he said. Lily (9) is such a sweetheart. Endless amounts of questions and a willingness to help with the littles or in the galley. She’s been going to the cockpit to stare off into the distance and write poetry. Yesterday she used her goddess cards to add more detail. We know she’s been writing when we find her crumpled pieces of paper all over the deck. On day one, she drew a picture of Tristan and put her Baba’s # on it, she tossed it into the sea and said it was so her hopeless brother would find a mermaid girlfriend. Mara (5) makes sure she is not overlooked. She always screams for something or confesses the mistreatment she is receiving from one of the bigs. She comes to me, her hair all knotted up with big tears on her cheeks, and says someone has tickled her. She also has huge moments of love for this life, and then later asks when will we go home home. She wants to play balloons with her Papa, because Papa likes balloons just as much as her. She needs lots of hugs, which I am happy to give. Today we had a dance party as we fell around due to swells, but I’ve never seen her so happy. Rory (2) is talking and singing and not puking! He still won’t stop breastfeeding, but he has also began to expand his food horizons trying new things carefully. His favorite song to sing is Mary had a Little Lamb in a fast rap sorta way. He’ll sing other songs, but he will always come back to that one. He has the most fun doing dangerous things that all make us reach out our hands with wide eyes, or he likes to horse play in the aft. During quiet time, he sings for Paw Patrol or Diego. Other times, he grabs one of my fingers and pulls me to his bunk bed for cuddles. When I cook in the galley, he heads to the bathroom for his stool, screams for help, and then wants to be close to the action. All of my ronans on Selkie are mostly happy and very healthy.
