Hello All, My family and I are planning to sail the west coast of France/Portugal and Spain in late August - October 2020 prior to the ARC 2020. We may be leaving England end of August +/-.... but we plan to be somewhere btw there and France in that time frame on the Atlantic...

Is anyone interested in cruising prior to the ARC 2020?

Does anyone have Teens/Kids Aboard, we'll have 2 (would love to cruise with anyone, teens/kids or not).

We wish everyone the absolute best, stay safe!

Personal Safety Devices: PLB and AIS Beacons

Hi,

We have:

McMurdo Fast Find PLB: we have 2.

battery expiry June 2022. These batteries can be purchased for £150 and be installed by yourself;

Kannad SafeLink R10 AIS: we have 4.

battery expires August 2022. These batteries need to be serviced and can be replaced for £80.00

My wife and I both wore a personal AIS beacon (Kannad Safelink R10) and a PLB (McMurdo Fast Find) on our PFDs. The idea was that the AIS beacon would help us with MOB situations that we could quickly respond to as the beacon connected to our chart plotter and we could quickly/easily locate the MOB . Should the boat get out of range of the MOB (you may recall that this happened in one of the Clipper Races) then the PLB would then be useful in coordination with COSPAS-SARSAT teams to relocate the MOB.

In addition, the two PLBs could be used in sequence with our EPIRB so that we could have up to 120 hours (our EPIRB's battery was good for 24 hrs and the Fast Find last 24hrs each). Overkill perhaps, but, in the Pacific we did not know how long it would take to get assistance.

Please let me know if you would like more information.

Thanks

Kevin

Looking to crew ARC Atl 2020 for blue water exp

I added an OCL profile as well, but figure it can’t hurt to try here as well. I find myself married and addicted to sailing/cruising lifestyle @ 51 yrs old and want blue water exp over the next 3- 5 yrs before I retire and go live aboard full time. Looking for one spot for myself for preferably the ARC Atlantic 2020, but any experience is attractive. I’m a laid back technology guy who can blend in with just about any group and fortunate enough to be an executive in a business with partners who support my dream. Frequently charter 2-3 times a year on both mono & cats mostly out of VI/BVI but also St Martin & Belize and now I want to take it up a notch. Plan to purchase a 50’ Cat to make retirement with my wife comfortable so prefer to get Cat blue water exp but love mono opportunity as well. Thanks!
