Land Ho!

Twenty boats out of 25 taking part on World ARC 2023-24 have arrived in the anchorage of Hiva Oa.

During the crossing the crews experienced a real mixture of sailing conditions. Good winds, light winds a couple of emergencies at sea to respond to, as reported on our earlier news items.

After finding their land legs, participants are enjoying exploring this beautiful island, the second largest from the Marquesas.

With only a population of 2,200 people the locals are very enthusiastic to welcome the World ARC fleet and go to great efforts to prepare tours, shows and dinners for everyone to enjoy.

The island is famous for the final home of the French artist Paul Gauguin and the singer Jacques Brel whom are both buried in the Calvary Cemetery in Atuona. It is also home to the Tiki which are located near the village of Puama'u on the NE coast and are the largest stone sculptures in the French Polynesia.

The leg from the Galapagos Islands to Hiva Oa is the longest one of the Rally route which makes arrival on this island even more special!
