I have the 2nd Edition Cpt. F Rauscher Cruising Guide for the area. In the guide there's a regional chart 'Belize City to Ambergris Cay' which shows a pass through the Barrier reef at 17°38'800"N 88°01'800"W also labelled Long Cay pass. While providing co-ordinates and labelling this as a "pass" there isn't any commentary about it's suitability, if for example the San Pedro pass was inaccessible due to weather.

My question then, has anyone attempted to enter or leave via this pass? or have any information on whether a 4ft draft could use this as a backup plan?
