I've crewed on a ship before through the pacific, and across the Timor. Fellow travellers in Australia have been asking me about ports to go looking to crew, in particular offshore east coast departures (which I haven't done yet). If Australia is anything like New Zealand, there are tonnes of marina's and sailing clubs, but only a handful which are worthwhile visiting.

For example, in New Zealand, I asked around many places, and everyone told me, Opua or Westhaven. Maybe Whangerei.
And I believe they were right, as that's how I got offers.

So, of all the east coast ports in Australia i.e. NSW, VIC and QLD, which marina's and yacht clubs are worth visiting if someone wants to crew either to New Zealand, the south pacific, or perhaps north to Asia e.g. China, Japan etc, if infact any boats do go there.

Before anyone tells me, I've checked this page There are 9 main ports in NSW and at least 15 in Queensland. But if I was crewing I wouldn't want to travel to everyone of these. I'm sure only a couple are the major ones.

Thanks in advance

Hi James,
To get an idea of routes from (and to) Australia (and popular ports of departure), take a look at the noonsite routing pages. The following have various articles on routes from Australia, so these should get you started:
