ARC Europe Weather Bermuda-Azores 30 May 2018

Weather: Bermuda to Azores
Prepared: May 30 05:01UTC

Synopsis: A broad High centered near 30N/35W extends moderate ridging E to Canary Islands, broad ridging N to Azores, and strong ridging SW from the mean high center to Bahamas. The high center will drift NE to Azores by the 02nd, but the associated ridging is expected to remain mostly unchanged through the 04th.

A Low pressure near 48N/17W extends a cold front SW through Azores and along 33N. Will weaken into a trough through tomorrow evening while the associated cold front weakens.

A gale currently near 43N/50W extends a cold front SW along 31N and Bermuda. Will lift N to near 45N/50W through today, while the associated cold front changes little. The gale will tend to shift S to near 40N/47W through the 02nd, while the associated cold front then extends more SW to along 25N.

A Low will develop near 45N/20W by the 01st. Will move ESE into W Bay of Biscay and then drift and stall through the 04th before weakening into a trough over Spain.

Conclusion: Marginally favorable conditions expected across Zone PP although an approaching cold front is expected to give increasing and building conditions across Zone NN over the next 2-3 days. In advance of this front, expect S breezes to become fresh to strong, with gusts up to 35 knots at times, especially late on the 01st into early on 02nd. With the approach of the front, long period, SW swell sets will build to between 11-14 feet, with seas aft of the beam for all east bound vessels. The highest seas/swells will be observed during much of the day on the 01st into the 02nd. Across Zone PP, however, this front is expected to remain to the west this forecast period. Expect moderate to fresh S breezes to develop throughout the day today, with peak NW to N swell sets, long period, between 5-8 feet. Showers and squalls are also anticipated, particularly across Zone NN.
