Rubicon IV - First day in St. Lucia : post 2

January 5, 2019

Today was not very eventful, we checked into St. Lucia, and looked at the little market.

They were selling bananas, tangerines, spices, breadfruit, soursop, and many other things. Sadly though, they were sold out of plantains, a starchy banana that tastes amazing when cooked. In a stall next door, coconuts were being sold.                                                                                                Now, I guess most of you are thinking of the brown, hairy coconuts. Those are dehydrated and you almost never see them in the local markets. The younger, or green coconuts, are better because they have coconut jelly and water. Colours don’t matter, the ‘green coconuts’ can be green, orange or yellow.

I describe real coconut water as a sweetish liquid with a slight almond aftertaste. It doesn't taste like the stuff you get in bottles or cans in stores as its' been in there for a while. The jelly is kind of like gelatin with a mild taste.

Who am I?
I'm an eleven-year-old girl who is going on the world ARC from St. Lucia to Australia.
I have a brother named Pavel and my two parents are seasoned sailors.
We've decided to do this trip because we did the ARC in 2015, sailing across the Atlantic, and enjoyed it immensely.
So here I am...
Let's see what happens.

Catherine
