Lexington - 7/26/17 Closing in on Mackay

We are closing in on Mackay but in sail boat logic we have 160 miles to the finish and then 100 miles thru the reef to the marina. I hate to count my chickens too soon. It is 03:00, beginning my watch. We have had a great good passage. There has been very little rain. It is chilly enough at night to wear long pants and a light jacket. There are a lot of times when I see speeds of 7+ knots but I doubt we will average much over 6 knots. For us that is not bad. We are just not a fast boat. I have been studying the coast of Australia that we will be sailing. World Cruising has a local expert cruiser scheduled to talk to us on where to go and how. There is such a vast area. It has taken me a good bit to be slightly familiar with what is where. I am sure we will do fine but I do not want to hear ” you did not go there, it is the best place and you missed it”. The next thing we need to do is eat up all the stuff we can not take into Australia. Fruits, fresh anything, meats etc are not allowed in. Smartly so they are very strict about what comes into their country. They sometimes bring dogs on the boat to sniff out anything that you have hidden or forgotten. It will be interesting. I hope we are well prepared. May fair winds fill your sails with nothing a dog would want to sniff but your crotch! Bob
