Raggy Doll - Day 2 and 3 - Falmouth

The last two days have been spent at Falmouth, with winds reaching 40 plus mph. Even though we are safely tucked up in the marina the boat has been rocking and rolling as if we were at sea, ropes clanging and banging against rigging, mooring lines groaning and creaking under the strain. At times rain lashing down and then breaks of glorious sunshine. The only weather we haven't experienced since we left Hamble, Southampton is sleet and snow, we've been hit with everything else including thick fog while we were sailing. Grib files (weather charts) are being checked by skippers several times a day, with everyone looking for that window to make the smoothest journey across the notorious Bay of Biscay. We know now we are here until at least Saturday, but as I have said before Mother Nature always gets the last word and someone must have seriously upset her as she is just not playing ball!

Falmouth is a nice place to get stuck, with lots of places to eat and individual shops full of trinkets and tourist gifts. Our time here is serving a useful purpose of making us slow down our pace of life. Last night (Tuesday) AJ made an amazing 3 course dinner that we shared with the 2 crew of Le Soleil, yep even on the boat we get to eat like kings and queens!

Another highlight of our evenings is the lucky dip bag, AJ made a grand entrance Sunday evening with a bright green Fiji Coral coast bag that she had been hiding in her cabin and announced that we are on our trip from Plymouth to Lagos Portugal for 24 evenings so in the bag were 24 individually wrapped presents in various pieces of different coloured tissue paper and Andrew or I had to pick one every evening to open, a bit like an advent calendar with Lagos being Christmas. My sister does have the ability to always do the unexpected! Sunday evening was the first go and my reward was M & S mixed up meerkats (of the jelly variety). Andrew did Monday and picked a miniature box of Lindor truffles and last night our guests picked Marmite rice cakes, now bearing in mind one member of the Le Soleil crew, Kristian, is Norwegian and the other, Paula, is Spanish, this weird and wonderful experience ending in Marmite rice cakes was a missed photo opportunity!! 3 down 21 to go!!!
