Coming out of Santa Marta we notice that one of the battens was sticking out of the sale. Batten is a rod that fits in a pocket in the sail to stiffen the sail. The piece of cloth holding the bat and then had formed a hole. Today Ann and I set out to repair this problem. We got out a sewing kit that we keep on the boat. And sold a piece of leather over the end of the batten to replace the part that was missing. I sewed webbing over the hole in the piece of cloth that held the batten in place. We were real proud of ourselves when we were through.
