Timshel - Santa Marta to San Blas Day 3 Finish

Distance Run: 101.2 nm. We saw Rainbow and Zeeland during the night (lights and AIS). A lovely day but with the wind less the boat was slower and we realised we were in quite a strong adverse current. We set all possible sail - full main, poled out yankee and staysail. The question was, would we get to the finish line before it closed at 20.00? Should we used the engine? But as we were making 5 knots or more through the decided to continue as we were. As evening approached we came onto a reach, 3 sails set, hoping for increased speed. With 20 miles to go we knew if the wind held we could do it. Not many came up on the evening sched (Lexington was NC), they must be all finished and anchored. Eventually we crossed the line at 19.31 so just inside the cutoff time, and no engine hours. We radioed on VHF and got North, great to chat to them. It was completely dark by this time, the moon does not rise until midnight, so we decided staying offshore was the sensible option. Then we had to try to stop sailing which is not as easy as it sounds. We are hove to on starboard tack and drifting gently south westwards.
