Timshel - Santa Marta to San Blas Day 2

Distance Run: 133.3nm. The wild night continued with big seas and winds of 30 knots or more. In the morning we gybed and set the poled out yankee instead of the staysail but this and the main sail were heavily reefed. In the morning we discovered that the ARC number had been ripped away by a wave. Also the ARC flag was all fankled round the spare main halyard. We heard on the morning SSB sched (Steve was net controller) that poor Atla had discovered cracks in the mast and was motoring direct to Shelter Bay Panama. Cesarina had autopilot problems and had a few uncontrolled gybes resulting in some breakages, there were some ripped sails reported and Lexington was also heading direct to Shelter Bay due to a sick crew member. We also heard a DSC distress alert on the SSB but this was a relay by US Coastguard Virginia. During the afternoon and evening the wind gradually abated and we let out more sail, a much more peaceful night but the boat was much slower.
