Gwendoline - 24th day at sea

S/Y Gwendoline M - Atlanterhavskryds
14. December. 07.30 UTC.
On bord Lene, Bente, Annette, Maiken, Oliver, Orla og Kim
Position: 14.20.241N 53.24.644W

The time is now 07.30 UTC - 04.30 Gwendoline local time and 08.30 Danish time - on this glorious Wednesday Dec. 14th - and we have 440 nautical miles left to go.

The wind has, to our great satisfaction, become more manageable - as we now have a steady wind of 20-24 knots. This has also resulted in a much more calm sea - which again improves our sleeping conditions immensely.

The night watch has also been much easier, as Orla and I only had to make changes to the sail configuration a couple of times on the watch. At 04.00 Gwendoline local time, Maiken and Bente took over, and I expect that they will have a uneventful watch.

It is obvious that we are approaching land - as we are beginning to see other sailing ships like ours. Since Monday we have seen five ships all together.

We are still eating well on board. Our onions, potatoes, apples, oranges - even our cucumbers are still crisp and juicy. We had five cucumbers with us, and I ate some yesterday - a nice treat. It is amazing what a good fridge can do - especially when you take into account that we had all our vegetables delivered Dec. 18th. - ie. 26 days ago. We also still have some white cabbage left - the red cabbage we had to tribute to King Neptune.

Yesterday, Lene also had to sort in our sliced ham and through some of it out. Our cheese is holding up very good - and we still have plenty left to gorge in, before it goes bad.

Finally a huge wish came through yesterday - when we finally saw some dolphins. Apparently they are not as playful as the ones along the Portuguese coastline. They stayed with us for only a few minutes - and away they went - but they managed to bring a smile on everybody's face. Dolphins are such cheerful creatures in their natural environment.

We still haven't seen any whales - but as we still have some days to go - we might just also get that wish fulfilled.
