Paw Paw - Log Day 259: A Quiet Sunday or Not

We were up early to enjoy a walk on the beach, followed by a dinghy ride down the Nakama Creek and around Nawi Island. This walk was a little different though. Firstly the sand was very hot under our shoes, secondly, boiling water was bubbling through the sand before running into the ocean and thirdly, we stood in plumes of steam while we soaked our feet. Fiji has many hot springs, but enjoying one on a beach was a very unusual experience indeed.

Then it was back to Paw Paw for breakfast and to bury ourselves in paper charts, electronic charts and cruising guides for the rest of the day in order to work out our detailed itinerary while in Fiji. Given the number of Islands, but more importantly, the number of reefs and coral heads, we decided the best course of actions at this late stage in our cruising season was to stick to the deeper water and navigate clockwise around the main island chain.

With that decision out of the way, w e headed to the Copra Shed to enjoy sundowners and some live music in the garden with Qi (Gaylyn and Thomas) whom we first met in Samoa. When we arrived the folks from Nina were already there. Then Tawn from Pallaran arrived whom we first met in American Samoa when Roy helped them reanchor using our dinghy, since they had dragged and had lost the use of their engine.

So much for a quiet Sunday!
