Weather Portsmouth to Bermuda 06 May

Weather Portsmouth to Bermuda
06 May 2018

Prepared: May 06 08:42UTC

Synopsis: High pressure centered near 32N/53W extends stronger ridging SW to Puerto Rico and Hispaniola. The high center will move ENE to near 35N/43W thru afternoon of 08th while ridging across BVI/Puerto Rico/Hispaniola also changes little thru this time.

A trough of low pressure is currently centered along 28N and S to near 15N. Will yield persistent showers and squalls thru at least the afternoon of 08th with little change.

The remnants of Tropical Low 1 currently centered over E'rn North Carolina. The low will quickly lift NE to E'rn Nova Scotia thru tomorrow afternoon. The low will lift ENE to near 53N/32W while strengthening into a storm by afternoon of 08th.

Conclusion: We continue to recommend departure from Portsmouth this morning as this will allow your vessels to remain behind the highest concentration of shower and squall activity associated with the remnants of Tropical Low 1.

Nonetheless, across Zone I, expect peak SE swell sets, moderate in period between 11-14 feet during the day today across E and NE portions of the grid, with gradual abatement tonight into tomorrow. Breezy conditions are expected to develop as the low lifts out of the region, with fresh to strong NW to NE breezes anticipated. Shower and squall coverage is expected to remain ISLTD to scattered in coverage at this time.

Across Zone F, as the remnants of Tropical Low 1 lift NE today, expect fresh to strong SE to SW breezes will develop. Additionally, expect peak S swell sets between 13-16 feet to develop later today across mainly N portions of the grid, remaining moderate to long period, while gradually abating thru the morning of 08th. Expect ISLTD to scattered shower and squall coverage to persist thru this time.
