WX ARC 2017 30 Nov

Synopsis: Good morning. A weak ridge of high pressure extends from the Canaries SW towards the Cape Verde Islands, and W towards about 50W. This ridging will change little thru today, then strengthen slightly thru the 02. A gale is currently centered near about 38N/40W. This gale will move SE towards 35N/35W thru tonight, then broadening and weakening while meandering to the NW of the Azores thru the 02. Tomorrow evening, low pressure will begin to form near 28N/60W, and will strengthen while moving NE across 30N/55W thru the evening of the 02.

Conclusion:

Zone DD: W will persist across this zone thru today, then tend to become more variable from the East by tomorrow and thru the 02 with the gale moving off to the NE. Across S parts of the zone, winds will tend more E tomorrow/02, and more W across N portions. Swell will increase from N to S across the zone thru tomorrow afternoon, then lower (highest sets will be found in areas farther north).

Zone EE: NE will begin to shift and vary depending on the exact location in the zone by later today and thru tomorrow. More SE breezes will be expected across S areas, and more NW across the N portion. By the 02, SE will begin to increase as low pressure forms to the NW of the zone. N swell will build from N to S across the zone thru tomorrow afternoon, then lower thereafter. Highest sets will generally be found across NE-E parts of the zone.

Zones FF and KK: These zones will be far enough behind (south and west) of the aforementioned gale to avoid significant impacts. E will shift towards the S (and even SW across FF) and freshen on the 02 thanks to the developing low off to the NW. The strongest winds and highest seas will be found in zone FF, closer to the next low.

Zones JJ, II and HH: Weak ridging will persist thru the 01st across these zones, then strengthen a bit by the 02 (with these zones remaining well south of the gale mentioned above). N swell will build across all of these zones by late on the 01st and thorough the 02.

Zones NN, OO, and PP: Similar to the above, weak ridging will persist across these zones thru the 01st, then trade winds will freshen slightly on the 02 as ridging strengthens marginally. N swell will reach these zones later in the forecast period, building from N to S on the 02.

Zone QQ: This zone will observe similar conditions to zones NN-PP above thanks to persistent weak/moderate ridging, as well as some long period N-NE swell.

The only exception will be some shorter period SE swell mixing in at times (especially in S areas of the zone).
