Busy Day on the dock in Horta

Busy Day on the Dock
Sunday 27 May 2012

We now have 11 of the ARC Europe fleet in Horta after their atlantic crossing from Bermuda. All of which have done very well in getting here in such a short period of time, with surprisingly few motoring hours! Aniarra II arrived at midday today and recorded under 15 hours motoring, the least so far. Crew aboard Aniara II explained how 'It was very tempting to turn the engine on however persistance pays off.. sometimes'. They had a lot of fun over the 11days at sea, and also seemed to get very lucky with fishing, having 4 large fresh tuna steaks to give away to their rafted neighbours in exchange for a fine bottle of local wine. A good deal for both parties.

Zingara was another arrival in the early hours this morning, happy to drop anchor until daylight before rafting up inside the Marina and then clearing customs. On meeting the crew once ashore and receiving the declaration, they were happy to report no damages to the boat or electrical equipement however managed to lose plenty of lures aswel as an entire fishing rod to the powerful fish of the mid atlantic.

Whilst rally control were busy talking to the new arrivals on the VHF and assisting them to berths, the crews now safely checked in and alongside enjoyed a great evening in Peter Cafe Sport where a live band provided some quality entertainment and tales were shared amongst participants of their recent passage.

Tonight Peter Cafe Sport host another happy hour where another busy and enjoyable evening can be expected. We look forward to seeing some friendly faces once again. More boats due in over the next 24hours, keep up to date of their progress via the fleet viewer (http://www.worldcruising.com/arceurope/viewer.aspx).
