Firefly - Great passage to St Helena

Since leaving Luderitz in Namibai we have enjoyed a great passage with the wind behind us blowing between 15 and 25 knots, a following sea (not too rolly or bumpy!)and after the first chilly nights a very pleasant temperature during the day and night watches. Our Long Range Radio (SSB) has been working well and we generally have better transmission and receipt than the other yachts. Via the twice daily net we are in contact with most of the rally boats despite them being spread all across the route to St Helena. Today we are controlling the net at at 1000 we spoke to most of the 16 other yachts with the first boats expecting to be in by Tuesday and the back marker is probably 1000 miles behind due to a delayed start.

Much of our focus over the passage has been refining our culinary skills.... Gareth's Smoked Snoek (South African fish), potato and spinach pie served last night with a chilled beer will take some beating. We would like to see Masterchef competitors do any better in a rolling kitchen! We have also discovered the delights of South African Chakalaka sauce- it seems to go with everything!

We have 475 miles to go to the island where Napoleon was incarcerated and are hoping our stopover will be a little shorter!

Happy sailing

Paul, Gareth and Peter
