Arthur Logic - At Sea Blog 2

From Arthur Logic At Sea:
A recurring trait amongst all successful sports teams is healthy internal rivalry.

The All Blacks, the inspiration for our team, put it at the heart of their philosophy and it proved to be the difference for Oracle, the Americas cup team who so heroically came from behind to beat, as irony would have it, teamed Zealand. And so, it would be fitting for the two watch teams aboard Arthur Logic to put it to positive effect too.

So, let's not dwell on what the opposing watch aren't doing so well, let's instead as an act of solidarity and encouragement, focus on their overriding strengths. They've instantly hit it off thanks to a shared love of sleeping and having brunch - two traits crucial to a high performance race team.

This triumvirate of sailors have called themselves Black Pearl. Which I'm told (not being a film buff) is reference to a film about pirates, set in the Caribbean. Imaginative.
Presumably they’ve chosen this name to get inside Phil's head (Phil being the most Pirataphobic person since the lost boys in Peter Pan).

The question is - will this team and prove to be as valuable a gem stone as the black Pearl or just three pebbles hoping to wash up in Rodney Bay? Let’s meet them and find out.

First up is watch leader Kit 'don’t cross kit' Cross. A veteran of the Rio Olympics (disappointingly not for the Somali sailing or shooting teams) but as a journalist and tech guru for the organising committee. If the ARC was sailing across the dark web rather than the Atlantic we'd already be sipping Pina Coladas in Spinnaker's bar by now.

Next up is the roughest of rough diamonds Nico Kostich. A lover of sailing very quickly. A hater of the cold. And subtly. Such is Nico's appreciation of sophisticated means of travel (and to save a bob or two) that’s he hasn't stopped complaining that he can’t earn Avios points for his passage across the Atlantic.

And finally there's Julian 'The Sting' Rea. A dutchman whose commitment to fishing off the back of the boat makes Robson Greene's endeavours look more akin to a stall at a funfair. We won’t be complaining if he pulls out the 32kg Tuna he’s targeting but my money’s on little more than an old boot that Sinter Klaas can fill with sweets on December 5th.

So, that's the opposition. Let the healthy rivalry commence and I have no doubt be the two teams will come together to be far greater than the sum of their individual parts.
