Paw Paw - Log Day 201: Out and About

After re-anchoring this morning to place us further behind the breakwater and closer to Marina Apia, we took a taxi to Sails Restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch of freshly caught swordfish. Elaine had hers in fishcakes topped with a pineapple salsa and Roy had his battered, with the usual choice of sides. We enjoyed the meal so much that we've made dinner reservations for next week.

While enjoying lunch overlooking Apia Bay one couldn't help, but notice the completely different colours of the water here compared to the other islands we've visited in the South Pacific. Instead of shades of blue and turquoise with a white sandy bottom, the water here is amazing shades of green that seem to be emphasised with the dark volcanic bottom. We understand the south coast is different again, so we're looking forward to seeing that.

While out and about we decided to walk back to town along the northwest promenade, stopping at the flea market, the food market and the fish market along the way. We also got to see the parliamentary buildings, the courthouse and various memorials to the ships that sank here around the time of World War II.

After an evening stroll along the northeast promenade, we stopped in at Cocktails On the Rocks for our first Happy Hour drink and then returned to The Edge Cocktail Lounge at Marina Apia to wrap up our evening, before heading back to Paw Paw for a light meal aboard.
