Paw Paw - Log Days 175 & 176: Awaiting a Weather Window

Yesterday morning we woke to a huge plume of black smoke and flames bellowing out of the restaurant area where the Heiva has been taking place. Within minutes the adjacent building was on fire as well. Since these buildings are constructed using traditional methods, the flames spread like wildfire.

By the time the fire brigade eventually got it under control there was little left of either building. It was amazing though, that when we took a walk into town yesterday afternoon there wasn't a single sign of the event. The graders and trucks had hauled everything away. All that remained was the patch of sand where the buildings had stood. You don't see that kind of efficiency in too many places these days!

While we await our weather window to set sail, we took advantage of the extra time. Roy cleaned the hulls yesterday morning and we enjoyed Happy Hour ashore yesterday evening.

Today we dinghied to the Hilton Resort and enjoyed a lovely lunch on their terrace before snorkeling one of the Coral Gardens. To our surprise we spotted Nina in their dinghy heading for the same snorkeling area. Tonight both yachts are safely on mooring balls awaiting the next patch of bad weather which is due to hit in the early hours of tomorrow morning and last a few days.
