Paw Paw - Log Day 82: A Strange Calm

Today was a mixed bag. Elaine started the day off with her exercises on the foredeck - The first time since leaving St Lucia. Ready for the day, she then enjoyed a nice chat to Keenan and, after breakfast, baked a Banana Loaf. She then spent the rest of the day sorting out photos in the hope of being able to upload them all when we get to Nuku Hiva in a week or so.

Roy started the day off by cleaning the hulls - The first time since leaving La Playita, Panama. After breakfast he attempted to fix our gas barbecue, but to no avail - A new part is needed. He then investigated the source of the problem with our fridge - Fortunately it's the controller and not the compressor, but nonetheless, another new part needs to be purchased.

Before we knew it, the day was over and we were saying goodbye to the last of the World ARC fleet who are making their way to Huku Hiva for the rendezvous on the 2nd - One we are missing in lieu of meeting C attiva (Maria and Maurice) in Ua Poa later this week. We also said goodbye to Widago and Kiwi Beanz as they headed for the Tuamotos this morning.

Then a strange calm settled over the bay - No chatter on the VHF radio, no dinghies motoring around, no sounds of children playing, no socials to attend.

With that we decided it was a good time to open the gift we had received from Galene (Rowena and Richard) in Bequia last year. Since it came with strict instructions not to be opened until we were "on the far side of the world", we assumed an ocean crossing met the criteria. Thank you Galene! Of course, when we discovered the content, it was only appropriate to toast all our absent sailing friends, as well as all our new found friends in the World ARC fleet, wishing them all fair winds and following seas! We'll see you in Tahiti!
