Skyelark of London - Here fishy fishy

Excellent sailing all night last night – beautiful moon light and stars and 20 knot winds pushing us along.  Sunrise watch was treated to a visit by a pod of minke whales jumping off the starboard side and swimming in the waves behind and next to the boat.  Later in the day we were revisited and saw one whale swimming right next to the boat, which makes Dan and Em quite nervous, especially when the whale decided to dart across our bow.

But this wouldn’t be our only fishy adventure today.  We als have the classic big one that got away story.  We had a strike on the fishing rod rigged with Peter’s “Terminator” lure.  Two nibbles, then it took the line and ran with almost all of it.  Increasing the drag just caused the 80 lb test line to snap.  Right after that the same fish bit on the second hand line rigged with 150lb test and took all of that line before it snapped.  This one had Dan’s “woody” lure that he picked up the last time he was in St. Lucia and has served him well until now.  Good news is that he can replace it when we get to St. Lucia.  We are now imagining a big fat tuna swimming around with two decorative piercings in his lip!

The day has been generally squally but we continue to make good progress between the rain showers.  We celebrated less than 1,000 miles to go at happy hour this evening.  Yay!
