Equinox - Tom’s reflections

Rather than an hour by hour, ‘what we did on our holidays’ style blog I decided on the piece below. It’s obviously personal and heartfelt. I hope it triggers, if not similar thoughts, then those of your own stimulated by the greater world around us.

There was once an on old man, well, old in the eyes of his grandchildren at least, who, when asked, set sail to cross a sea and then a WHOLE ocean despite his affliction with sea sickness. Not as an adventure or as a challenge but because it was there and for once in his life he was going to make a positive decision. During his early years decisions were made for him by others, parents, family, friends and teachers. Even in later life ‘positive’ decisions were not Grandad’s ‘thing’.  On the whole he preferred to go with the flow or take the option of least resistance. Not that Grandad’s life had been particularly uneventful as the normal trappings of education, marriage, family and career came with the territory of just being a ‘Grandad’. He knew that his extending family would continue to prosper and that his legacy would outlive him. Despite first appearances this Grandad thought he was a kind and sensitive man wishing only the best for others which was another reason he set sail; as an example and to urge all children and grandchildren to grasp those opportunities that arrive, seek out and enjoy new experiences, change and adapt to new circumstances and above all have fun in your life and confidence in what you do and what you are.”
