Morgane of Sark - our last full night at the ocean

Hi there, we just enrolled in our final nightly watche schedule! We hope to be in Grenada tomorrow night around this hour. We are getting excited to arrive and are ready for some “land life “ again.

But, a lot to tell about the life on the Morgane of Sark on the ocean since our last log yesterday afternoon.

Herco caught a tuna fish yesterday evening right before dusk. He hadn’t been fishing because of the waves, but yesterday afternoon it eased a bit, so he gave it one more try. With a fat tuna fish as a result, guess around 3 kilos. Tasted delicious! Tomorrow the other half!

We continued the pup quiz with guys of Sandy Cay late afternoon. They were still within 10 miles. We lost the battle…. So, drinks are on us in Grenada. It was a lot of fun, playing the pup quiz on the VHF like this, in the middle of the ocean. A lot of laughter and a great intermezzo.

Our fresh fruit and vegetable nets are empty by now. Last night we finished the last pumpkins with some onions in a curry. And tonight we finished the onions. With patatoes and spinach out the freezer. We have been cooking fresh, healthy meals the entire crossing, so that is nice. Somebody interested in the 2 dozens of microwave dinners we still have on board?

The night was very intensive again. Continually squals all over the place. We didn’t get hit, thank goodness, but we had to pay attention all the time and made manoeuvres trying to avoid them if possible. That meant that we sailed most of the time only with a reefed main (because we roll in the Genua when there’s a squal in the neighborhood)
The wind had decreased, and on only a reefed main, our speed decreased as well.

As soon as the morning came and the sun got up, the squals disappeared..

At sunrise we had a large group of small dolphins joining us for about 15 minutes. They were chasing flying fishes it appeared. So nice.

Today was pretty relaxed. The waves were friendly and we could get around in the boat again without being thrown over all the time.

The thing is that less wind means less waves, but also less speed over ground…and we saw our eta moving. But, better to arrive a few hours later and be comfortable.

In the afternoon, we took out the reef of the main, but we reefed it again for the night.
At this moment, the windspeed is between 14 and 18 knots and it is comfortable sailing. Still butterflying.

Cog 255 degrees
SOG 5,5 - 6,5 knots
Current position: N 12* 05 99 W 59* 27 29

We passed the 2000 miles and still have 148 miles to go. Almost there!!

We’ll keep you posted!
