Layla - Getting to the start line 2019

Welcome to Layla’s 2019 Arc+ blog.

Layla is a Jeanneau 64 owned by Malcolm and Anne Goater

For us our ARC story started back 2017 with preparation for the ARC that year. However just 10 days before departure we were beset with some medical issues and unfortunately had to call off the crossing. The WCC were amazing and held a place for us at a future time, very impressive as they could not have filled our place at such a short notice. THANK YOU WCC.

So for this blog let’s start with the commissioning of Layla a Jeanneau 64 in the iconic sailing port of Les Sables D’Alonne. From the initial excitement of delivery to the inevitable snagging problems Layla took to sea for trials and a few weeks later it was time to leave Les Sables being waved off by the Jeanneau team and the Pitners who were also commissioning their 64. Out to sea we went, set the sails and engaged the autohelm only to be spun around 180 degress. So it was back to port to find out why the auto helm had calibrated 180 degrees out! Five times following the same procedure resulted in a proper calibration and once tested we headed for Biscay.
