Catching up in the Azores

After arriving in Horta as the first stop in the Azores the majority of the fleet have now moved to Ponta Delgada, on the island of Sao Miguel. The fleet arrived in Marina de Ponta Delgada over a few days with the first boats coming in on Sunday and Monday and the last boats yesterday with Jubilate Mare coming from Horta along with Griselda who came directly from Bermuda and were met on the pontoon with a welcome from the yellow shirt team and their fellow boats.

After a few days of bright sunshine the weather is changing with an area of low pressure bringing strong winds, rain and high swell. The boats are well protected in the marina and the weather is expected to calm down this evening and clear up ahead of the fleet's start of the next leg.

Whilst in Ponta Delgada crews will take a half day Seven Cities tour to see the western part of the island including a stop to visit the lake at Sete Cidades. They will then celebrate their achievements on the crossing so far at the prizegiving ceremony for the last leg which will take place at Fort Sao Roque along the coast. The participants will catch up over dinner and no doubt there will be much discussion around the next leg of each boats journey.
