ARC Weather Forecast 16/12/2016

ARC Weather Forecast
16/12/2016

Synopsis: HIGH PRESSURE ridging centered over the Azores, extends from W Ireland, SW across the Azores/Canaries/ and Cape Verde Islands across the Central Atlantic towards the Leeward Islands. This area of HIGH PRESSURE ridging is forecast to move NE towards France through 18/12 while broadening, as a COLD FRONT moves towards the Azores during this time.

A GALE centered over N Nova Scotia, extends from N Quebec, S towards Bermuda. Along this gale extends a COLD FRONT from the N Bahamas, NE towards 45N/35W. This front is forecast to move NE across the Azores through 19/12, while weakening, extending from Ireland, SW across the Azores as the GALE move NE towards Iceland while becoming complex.

In the wake of the cold front, HIGH PRESSURE ridging that is forecast to be centered over the eastern United States during the morning hours of today, is forecast to move slowly E towards the Azores through 20/12, while broadening, extending from the Azores, SW across Hispaniola and the Bahamas. This HIGH PRESSURE ridging will retreat slightly E towards 45W through 22/12, as a COLD FRONT move E towards 50W during this time.

Conclusion: Fresh NE-E trades will generally strengthen across Zones QQ, LL, and RR through the next 2-3 days, bring with it building E-NE swell reaching 9-10 feet across all three Zones by 18/12. Average period of the swell will be around 8-9 seconds overall across all three zones. Primary concern over the next couple of days will be ISLTD squalls in/around the Leeward Islands that may result in locally higher conditions approaching gale force and 0.5 meters 2-3 feet higher than forecast. Winds will tend to be highest in regions prone to funnelling such as the various channels between the Leeward Islands.
