World ARC 2018-19 Fleet Tour Salvador and Celebrate Final Ocean Passage



The sights and sounds of Salvador da Bahia continue to impress as the World ARC 18-19 fleet explore the city and its diverse culture. 

 

On Tuesday, participants were treated to a city tour by Tours Bahia that included many historical sights and a glimpse into the different neighbourhoods. World ARC fleet were wowed by the Igreja e Covento Sao Francisco, one of Brazil's most magnificent churches, constructed in 1723! They also enjoyed a guided walking tour of the old city district, Pelourihno and a visit to the bustling waterfront beaches of Barra. Home to three colonial forts, Forte Sao Diogo, Forte Santa Maria and Forte de Santo Antonio da Barra, it also houses the countries Nautical museum and oldest lighthouse in South America! 

  

Later that evening, the official welcome party and Prizegiving was held at the Terminal Nautico, Marina Socicam. Special thank you to marina staff, Dominique and Alexandre, event staff Eduarda, Thais and General Manager Ismael for the extra effort. A festive evening was enjoyed by all, with music and dancing overlooking the beautiful Bay of All Saints. Crossing the Southern Atlantic and final ocean of the circumnavigation, yachts were recognized for friendly sailing competition from St. Helena to Salvador. 

 

Madrigal earned the top spot, placing first in Division A, with Mischief taking second and Adrienne third. Division B was led by PretAixte, followed by Callisto and Timshel. Misto won the multihull division. A special thank you to Carla Leal for providing the prizes.

 

With the stopover in Salvador wrapping up, World ARC 18-19 crews are busy planning their free cruising time before the next official rendezvous in Cabedelo. The beautiful coastline of Brazil has much to offer and with Carnival season in full force there will surely be many more magical memories created in Brazil!
