Diamonds Are Forever - Day 2: The Vom Trapp Family - the hills are alive to the sound of barfing

Since day 1 was such a raging success with immense weather, maximum sea sickness, broken fridge, ripped main sail, bimini attempting to go overboard and jerry can making a run for it dangling off the port side, day 2 was proving to be a resounding success. The watch system started and so did operation clean up.

Jackie was on mother watch as she was the only crew member who could manage to make a whole meal and cuppas without going green, so definitely deserves the ‘Guts of Steel’ award for keeping us all fed and watered. J rustled up egg fried rice with stir fried veg then bacon, mash and beans which wasn’t bad going considering 90% of the meat had just gone overboard.

Day 2 thankfully also saw the vomit count subside somewhat and replaced with ‘near barf experiences’: Sam – 1, Cathy – many (ironic having vom’d yesterday into her bag of sea sick tablets), Caroline – 2, Harriet – 1 (when she discovered a bag of chicken stir fry that had been in the broken fridge and was not looking, or smelling well).  In fact the ‘off’ fridge waft was antagonising the likelihood of girls making it to the actual vomit category so had to be dealt with sharpish.  Jackie and Sam set about getting all the revolting meat out, throwing it overboard and then washing all the plastic packaging, while Blatch attempted fridge decontamination with peg on nose.

Weather state was considerably different to previous 24 hours which had consisted of salt scrub, salt peel, salt scrape and was topped off with a torrential fresh water rinse at 2300.  Sea still remains confused with regards to wave and swell direction so suggest we enlist help of a counsellor if we are to make significant progress.

Sam had her first words today ‘are we nearly there yet?’, which means this is likely to be a VERY LONG trip if Blatch doesn’t get the boredom under control.

Sunset was beautiful and hopefully marks a much more hopeful sail across the rest of the Atlantic, having now sailed approx 140nm a day.

Song of the day: I can see clearly now the rain has gone
