Blake - right turn

Hello from at sea, it’s dawn on Friday and really it feels like we just crossed the start line! I’m not sure where the last few days have gone, but it feels good that we’re coming up on a week at sea. Other milestones will likely be reaching halfway and I recall the start of a countdown for the last 1000Miles felt good.

So yesterday we kinda started our right turn and putting it some more west as until now we have been heading more south towards the cape verdes islands. It was just before lunchtime that the wind seemed to shift and we were able to fly our new orange asymmetric genaker for a few hours, in fact just as we enjoyed a beautiful Thanksgiving lunch, roast chicken at sea :) then the wind quickly died off and we doused the sails and motored for about 3 hrs until it filled in.

Just now we are sailing along nicely, wind on the beam from the north and we’re doing a steady high 6s low 7s SOG (speed over ground) seems a bit odd to have northerlies out here but it’s due to head more NE. Does look a bit lively for the weekend, not sure what that system is in the azores coming down across us but could be interesting.

We get a daily weather email from rally control and also a position report which is cool, nice to check on our family pontoon buddies and see how they are getting on. We’re certainly seeing less boats on the horizon and not even as many on the AIS, but I was surprised to have picked up a big 300 meter long ship from 90 miles away!

Aloha, Blake
