Next Step - Cascais, Portugal

The trip to Cascais was a little slow at times but the final approach around Cabo Rosa towards Cascais marina was a fantastic fast sail, at times we were making 9 knots over the ground. We had stayed off shore for most of the trip, but when we got closer in shore the number of fishing pots that we needed to avoid increased dramatically.

A little earlier than anticipated we arrived at the visitors reception pontoon at Cascais marina, the marina reception were very helpful and they spoke excellent English. Portugal seems to be a bit more organised than Spain as our boat details and insurance were already on a database that the marinas obviously all share, so checking in was very much quicker. We went around to our allocated marina berth and tied up.

Once we had sorted ourselves out, we went off for a drink at O'Neills bar followed by a sea food meal outside at a restaurant. Nicole was finally able to have her Portugese fish stew that she had hoped to have on her birthday. Cascais is a very nice place with quite a lot of English and Irish named restaurants and pubs. The following morning, we had some chores to undertake on the boat and food shopping to do before we went off into the town to explore.

In the evening we again visited O'Neills bar for a drink and then headed off for some food at a different restaurant to last nights in the same central square. This was our last night in Portugal before we head off further south to Funchal, Madeira…

We slipped our berth in Cascais at approximately 1000 and headed out to sea for the longest of our individual legs so far. Initially, we had to motor but eventually the wind came in from the north west as forecast and we had a very nice speedy sail into our first night at sea.
