Misto - March 13-15 2019: A respite at Iles du Salut

March 14 was a grey and wet day as squall after squall came over. Some lasted almost 2 hours but most only brought wind in the mid 20’s. It was also very lumpy on a cat with wind chop and swell pretty much beam on.

The last day of the passage saw relief from the squally weather as we exited the ITCZ, and the approach to Iles du Salut was fast with up to 3 knots of current.

These pretty, palm edged islands have a checkered history as they housed the infamous French prison, which included Devils Island, that was active from the late 1800’s until 1947.

It’s really nice to have a 24 hour stop over here to recuperate from the rigors of the last week. We enjoyed exploring the two islands that you are allowed to visit. Tonight we, along with most of the boats that are here, will be going for dinner at the hotel on the main island. Then tomorrow morning we will be on our way to Grenada.
